If the story of Christmas tells us how to believe . . . then the music of Christmas tells us how to feel.  - Derric Johnson

Useless Facts for 2004
For those continuing to keep score at home, here's some useless statistics of our
2004 display:

   - Total lights for 2004: almost 50,000
   - 160 computer controlled channels
   - Power used:  about 120 amps spread across nine dedicated 20 amp circuits
   - Added cost of electricity in December: still not as bad as you might think
   - Extension cords used: lost count but approximately 200 totaling about 4,300 feet
   - Number of extension cords chewed by raccoons: 1 in 2003,  4 in 2002
   - Number of raccoons harmed by our display: ??
   - Total characters: 33 (including penguins, polar bears, snowmen, elves, reindeer,
      and Santa)
   - Setup time: about 70 hours,  teardown time about 36 hours
   - Storage: everything (well almost) is stored in an attic above our garage taking up
      about 300 sq. feet

   - Music programming: several people have asked about the programming of the song and what's involved.  Depending on the song (length, tempo, etc.), the average song has about 400 specific timings that we have defined to be programmed.  Each of those 400 timings has 160 potential circuits/channels  that must be programmed - making one song have over 64,000  potential  decision points.    We usually run about 6-7 songs in one set bringing the total to over 400,000 actions that the computer  makes  in one set  lasting 21-23 minutes.  The process of programming one song is tedious - that's why we start the process usually in August.
